BE BOLD:SURPRISE US
BE BOLD is opening up the Brighton Museum & Art Gallery to Brighton’s LGBTQ community, inviting proposals to work with them to develop an LGBTQ programme of exhibitions & events for 2017-2018. It will be part of a series of LGBTQ Exhibitions & Events across The Royal Pavilion & Museums including exhibitions about the lives and works of artists Glyn Philpot and Gluck.
BE BOLD:SURPRISE US is just that. It offers the Spotlight Gallery to a series community lead and curated exhibitions & programming over 2 years. The Spotlight Gallery at the Brighton Museum & Art Gallery is a large, flexible bespoke gallery space which has wall space, display cabinets, capacity for graphics and Audio or film. The remit for this space is very open and museum staff are available to support you to develop your ideas for an exhibition.
This opportunity is the result of community consultations and a shared desire to better reflect and represent the LGBTQ community of Brighton & Hove and its histories. How would you like to tell your stories? What do you want your display to say? And who you want to say it to?
Proposals will be evaluated by a team made up of an equal number of external LGBTQ advisers and Royal Pavilion & Museums staff who are involved in this project. They will consider all proposals.
Brighton Royal Pavilion & Museums will provide the museum, collections, a budget and an experienced team of curation, design, engagement, marketing, research and technical staff to help facilitate the exhibition process, along with possible external partners. You provide the idea, the content and your time to create an exhibition together.
Be innovative, provocative or just celebrate LGBTQ history and community.
